At the S.S. Nomadic is a 69 meter long tender ship from 1911. She has a long history and is known as “Titanic’s little sister”. The Nomadic was built at the same shipyard, Harland & Wolff in Belfast, alongside the Titanic and Olympic. In April 1911 she began service as a tender ship in the French port of Cherbourg. Since the port of Cherbourg was not deep enough for the Olympic-class ships, the Nomadic, along with the S.S. Traffic used to bring passengers and goods that were to be disembarked or disembarked in Cherbourg to the ship. For a long time, the Nomadic served as a feeder ship in the port of Cherbourg and also brought passengers on board the Queen Mary. Today, the last existing White Star Line ship, the Nomadic has its home at the Titanic Museum in Belfast on the grounds of Harland & Wulff found.
The model
We have the S.S. Nomadic was painstakingly recreated as a kit with as much detail as possible. You have the opportunity to bring this 3D printable kit to your home. The model has been designed for many common scales such as 1:50, 1:60, 1:72 and 1:87 and can of course also be printed in 1:100 and smaller - but 1:40 and larger are also possible. Note that details may be lost as scale increases.
Here is an overview of the total length at appropriate scales:
1:50 - 1.34m
1:60 - 1.12m
1:72 - 0.93m
1:87 - 0.77m
1:100 - 0.67m
The model is printable with conventional PLA. However, we recommend something more "elastic" material, such as. PLA+. This has better flexibility and makes the boat less prone to breakage. Printing with ABS or other materials is of course also possible.
The hull is stable enough for printing with PLA. The hull walls are designed in such a way that you don't have to worry about breaking the hull when surface finishing the hull.
our advantages
This model is not designed for any specific scale. However, note that the quality of detail varies with scale. The smaller your model, the more details are lost.
Spare parts always available. Buy the model once and keep the data on your PC. If something breaks, you can immediately produce your spare part yourself, even if the model is no longer available in the shop.
- Decide for yourself which materials you use for printing.
- The limits of printing are determined by your 3D printer. The build space of your printer determines the maximum possible scale.
- To print certain parts, you will need to print support structures. This may result in higher material consumption - take this into account when planning.
- The fuselage parts are glued together and offer the possibility of additionally connecting them to each other with screws in the frames. The adhesive only performs the sealing function. Another advantage is that the screws distribute the pressure evenly over the adhesive surface during gluing, resulting in an almost perfect bond. Huge screw clamps are then no longer necessary.
- While glue loses its grip with age, the screw connection ensures that your torso retains its stability even as you age. Glued hulls become brittle with age and there is a risk that glued hulls could break in the event of impacts at the bonding points. In the worst case, this can mean a loss of the entire model. If the fuselage is screwed on, this risk is reduced to a minimum and you can enjoy your model for longer.
RC compatibility
The model is designed for use as an RC boat. Of course you can also use it as a stand model. Corresponding foundations for servos and motors are present in the fuselage and are sometimes printed into the structure as normal. Separate mounting plates with prepared mounting holes for the front sections are also included and can be printed out if required.
In the pictures you will find a table in which the boat is converted into various scales. For some scales it is listed which dimensions are intended for any fittings.
Corresponding fittings for the boat must be purchased separately and are not included.
scope of delivery
This set contains all parts for printing the model. All you need are the fittings for operation as an RC boat or drive shafts and propellers if you use the model as a driving model.
Instructions available in German and English.
Trial model?
Are you unsure whether the project is for you? In our shop you will find a trial set of the speedboat. With the trial set you have the opportunity to print some parts of the speedboat to try out. If you choose the trial set, you will receive a discount voucher for the price of the trial set. This way you won't have any disadvantage if you make a positive decision. Try it out! The selection of parts corresponds 100% to the parts from this set. This way you can take over the trial parts for your model.
